I don’t remember when or why I developed an interest in watches, but I’ve always liked and appreciated nice things – items that are designed, engineered or crafted with skill and passion, and make you feel good whether it be holding, using or even just looking at them – like a quality pair of shoes or a well-made piece of furniture. Growing up my Dad had no watch of significance or any that I remember until he bought his first Rolex when I was around 10yrs old. It was a pre-owned bi-colour Datejust with a champagne dial. How it looked, felt and the way the second hand moved was unlike anything I’d seen before. Someday, I’d own a Rolex of my own. In late 2011, while Christmas shopping with my Dad we visited the fancy jewellers in town. By some miracle they had a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona available. I promptly bought it, much to the enjoyment of my overexcited Dad.

Always having an interest in cars and watches, the Daytona had long been my favourite Rolex. I realise I am lucky to own such a statement piece, especially as waiting lists were and still are ridiculously long. I’ve since added to my collection, but the Daytona will always be my most treasured.
