I am the very fortunate protector of my Grandmothers wedding ring. She and my Grandfather were married in 1921. It is a gorgeous Art Deco style ring, which was considered extravagant in the day. She grew up in a family that didn’t have much, but my grandfather worked hard to make sure she never wanted for anything. They traveled, had children, and were very happy, until he had a heart attack and died in 1968. It broke her heart but not her spirit. She lived until age 93, comfortable and happy in the home they had built in 1941.

I wear her ring with pride and always receive compliments on it, even from jewelers. When it is not on my hand, it is nestled away in a hand me down jewelry keeper.

There will come a day when this ring is passed down to my granddaughter, and I hope that it is cherished in the same way as I cherish my grandmothers legacy.
