I have always been fascinated by watches as I remember being sat at school and looking at the clock at the front of my classroom and listening to the sound of it ticking, it was almost calming in a sense as you could only hear it when the classroom was quiet and unchaotic so the sound of ticking was almost comforting.

As I grew up I got more and more interested in watches and would often hear the name Rolex being thrown around and it almost became mythical in nature as the word Rolex was instantly attributable to the idea of success.

Being from a poor background, none of my family could afford anything like a Rolex so when I was able to start earning money myself I was determined to get one as a symbol of my hard work and I finally achieved that when I worked relentlessly during the lockdown last year.

When I got my Rolex it felt every bit as great as I thought it would, and wearing it made me feel like the hard work had finally paid off, linking it back to all those years ago of hearing the word and listening to that clock finally culminated in owning something that nicely rounded off my journey of loving watches. It won’t be the last watch I ever buy but it will always be one that’s special as it’s the first time I was able to afford a Rolex on my own.
