A few weeks before our second child was born, I started looking for a watch that would celebrate this moment. At our wedding and the birth of our first child, I was not yet so into the watches , so I had not yet bought a watch for an important occasion. I also wanted the watch to be a gift for my wife and that we could use it to tell a story. I had the idea of looking for a watch from the time when my wife and I were born, the 80s. I liked the idea that in 20 years time my daughter might be wearing a watch that was from her parents’ decade and that they had owned exactly since her birth. And so I came across a classic design: a two-tone Day & Date with a fluted bezel – timeless and elegant. Of course a model like this from Tudor or even Rolex would have been much more valuable, but I was more interested in the idea behind it and not the material value. Also, with children you do have expenses with higher priorities. Because of the rather universal size of 36mm, both my wife and I can wear the watch – even if it is actually more hers, because I gave it to her on the day of our daughter’s birth.
