Over the last decade, I have grown to appreciate the inherent symbolism watches possess especially when they’re used to memorialize notable life events. It seemed like a natural choice then to mark the birth of my two children with watches. The archetype birth year watch for each child. Separated by two years, patience, hunting, multiple calls to multiple dealers, and a few waitlists, I am the custodian of my son’s Rolex GMT Master II (116710BLNR) and my daughter’s Rolex Submariner (114060). Each reference with their initials and birthdate on the case back. These tokens represent my legacy. The hope that when I turn each watch over to them, they will wear them not only with pride, but with the feeling that my support, encouragement, and love is right there on their wrists.
